This is obviously a big topic and so I am going to start with just collecting some useful reference material. There are many excellent books on grammar for primary teachers. I use and recommend the following:
A Grammar Companion for Primary Teachers by Beverly Derewianka (hmmm, now updated, see this PETA link)
This is a fun and interesting grammar and spelling topic, although it has been suggested that weaker spellers may become more confused if you flood them with homophones. Here are some useful websites:
Pirate They're, Their and There (Teachers Pay Teachers, link to come later)
Mrs Warner has collected some good clipart to illustrate a range of homophones on her Homophones page.
Bright Hub Education page has a range of interesting activities on the "Fun Homophone Lesson Plan" page and linked pages.
I also found some useful grammar reference information, resources and links in the NSW NAPLAN Teaching Strategies guides, so I thought it would be useful to link to them here:
Homophones, Homonyms and Homographs
